Being
a website owner, you need to understand the technical sides
of your website and Google Webmaster helps in doing so. You need to
set up your website with Google Webmaster Tool. It is
a free and easy to use tool that allows the users to view their
website as Google does and find important
technical aspects of your website like:
Which
of your web site pages are indexed in SERP Errors
encountered while Google crawls your website
Search
queries/ keyword phrases that list your site as a result And
few more
Steps
to be followed to use Google Webmaster Tool
Sign in
with a Google Account-
Sign
in with your Google Account or Google+, but if you don't have then
create an account as it is required before setting up your website
with webmaster tools.
Setting up
your website with webmaster tools- Go
to Google Webmaster Tool
and register for a Google Webmaster Tools Account, and sign in.
Add
a Website URL- Once
you sign in you’ll be able to add your website address by clicking
on the “Add
a Site”
button, typing the address and clicking “Continue”.
When you enter your domain, you can either add the top level domain
(www.example.com) or you'll be able to add folders in case you want
to target a specific area of the site. This is useful when your site
is splitted into regions or country codes and to target different
international markets (www.example.com/folder1/folder2/).
Verification
of the Website- GWT
provides you four different methods of validating your website
including uploading a small file to your web server, adding a HTML
tag to your website’s homepage, sign in with your domain name
provider, or have Webmaster Tools to check your Google Analytics
code.
Manage
users- As
you log in to the tool, it provides you the access to multiple users
by adding them to the Verification Details via the “Manage”
link.
Once
you click the “Manage”
link, you will be directed through to the Verification Details page,
where you will be allowed to add/edit/delete the users who have
access to the data via their own Google account.
To add a new user, click the
“Add an owner” button and enter their email address. This works
for users who have a registered Google Account, so if they do not
currently have one please refer them to step 1.
Associate
Google Webmaster Tools with Google Analytics
- Add
Google Analytics to your profile to track your website by clicking
“Manage”
and select “Google
Analytics Profile”.
By
using Google Analytics, GWT allows you to import some data into the
Google Webmaster Tools interface to add extra value to your data.
This option will only be available if your Google Analytics account
is associated with the same account that GWT is set up on.
